Gracefield Cottage and Venison

Gracefield Cottage is located on a 100 acre deer farm 5 minutes from the township of Neerim South, just 90 minutes from Melbourne and right in the heart of Gippsland Gourmet Country.
Just 5 minutes from Neerim South township to Latrobe River Road you will be drawn into the quietness of the countryside. As you pass through our gate, with virgin bush on the right and a springfed lake on the left, the long curved driveway takes you to Gracefield Cottage where the ambience is one of peace and tranquility, a perfect place to wind down and forget the mobile phone..
Families, as well as couples, will enjoy Gracefield Cottage as it is a cosy, self-contained, country cottage with 2 bedrooms and a sitting room upstairs, sleeping up to 5 people. At night you can hear the frogs singing their song under the clear, black sky twinkling with brilliant stars. The views, during the day, are delightful, looking out over the rolling green pastures and natural bushland.
Downstairs is a comfortable lounge with a wood heater and is equipped with a flat screen HD TV, DVD and CD player, with a selection of DVD’s and CD’s for your enjoyment. The homely kitchen has full cooking facilities and if the weather is pleasant you can cook on a small BBQ outside under the veranda. A breakfast basket is supplied for you to have at your leisure.
Sit out on the veranda and enjoy a cup of coffee, listen to the birds and soak up the peaceful surroundings of a working farm or take a walk around the property and watch the deer, goats and alpacas grazing in the fields. Children will love to collect the eggs daily and feed our pet deer or the majestic elks.
There are many areas to walk and explore and the Neerim State Forest, which borders our property, is great for bushwalking, where you can observe the abundant wildlife or go horseriding and bikeriding, but you could also have a lazy day reading a book or just take a breather from the hectic city life!
There are many things to do in West Gippsland, so take a drive and visit the local wineries and cafes or picnic at the nearby Tarago Dam, the fern gullies of Glen Nayook and the Trestle Bridge in Noojee. Experience something very different and try your hand at fishing at the Alpine Trout Farm in Noojee.
Mt Baw Baw is only 50 minutes away and provides ideal skiing in winter, or during the warmer months, go bushwalking, bikeriding or watch the wildflowers burst into life.
There are many craft markets, galleries and wineries in the Gippsland Gourmet Country with historical townships such as Yarragon and Walhalla providing wonderful day trips.

Nestled within the hills of West Gippsland, Gracefield Venison Farm has extensive acres for the animals to roam freely and happily. Graham Edyvane, who owns and runs the Farm, has a hands-on involvement with day to day activity, making sure his livestock feel comfortable around him and ensuring they are at ease in natural surroundings for as much of the time as possible. Animals are encouraged to be predominantly grass fed with minimum supplementary feeding taking place in winter months.
Gracefield Venison is more consistent, less ‘gamey’, leaner and more moist than its wild counterpart. It provides high levels of protein compared with beef, lamb, pork and chicken, and lower levels of fat and cholesterol. It will also provide a good source of vitamins B12 and B6, both of which are good for a healthy heart, and omega oils and the immunity boosting zinc and selenium, a powerful anti-oxidant.
Gracefield Venison is typically described as having a flavour that is somewhat akin to a deeply woody, yet berry-like red wine, and features a texture that is supple and tender.

So, the next time you are planning on meat for dinner, try the iron-rich, vitamin-packed alternative to beef. Gracefield Venison can add variety to your diet as well as good health to your life.
